Double Holiday blocks

I found these really cute Halloween letters from Leelou’s Blog. I decided I wanted to make blocks with them. I also realized I could put Happy Halloween on one side and Merry Christmas on the other. I bought a piece of 1x4 and marked squares, my mom cut for me. Only thing was, I read the disclosure on the Halloween letters and the company put for personal use only. I will make me my own blocks with those letters later.
(I had during pictures but it appears when I uploaded the pictures from my two cameras yesterday one set over-road the other set. I hope there was nothing else important in there.)
I started off by painting the edges of the blocks a forest green. Then I covered one side of the block with a few different Halloween paper squares with Mod Podge. I cut out Happy Halloween on my Cricut and Mod Podged each letter on a different block. I flipped the blocks around and repeated the process with Christmas papers and Merry Christmas. I sanded down the edges. On the Halloween side I stamped the edges with a brown ink and on the Christmas side I went around the edges with Silver Extreme Glitter.


Easy project to get two holidays out of but the cutting and pasting of the papers and letters was rather time consuming.

Halloween 2010

I wanted to make a collage of all the Halloween projects I did this year. I couldn’t get it exactly the way I liked it, but here it is. I need to seriously get better at these picture editing programs. I used to use Picture It back in the day and I loved it. I can’t find one program that does everything I like and Adobe can be so complicating some times. Or maybe it is more that it doesn’t always work right.

If I really knew what I was doing I would be able to do it so that all the pictures line up, same size, and each linked to it’s original post. Boy I really need to figure that one out. =)

I am having a great time getting back into the crafting work and would really like this to be my line of work. I mean make enough money from it for me and my son to live off of on our own. Supplementing my income in other ways like selling Avon (or something crafty) as well until I can really get my business off the ground.

Trick or Treat Party and a giveaway

Candleholders

Inspiration:

From Entertain Exchange. I loved hers more than mine.

My Creation:

I need to learn how to stage my pictures better. I got the glasses from Dollar Tree and the longer candle holder, the two short candle holders are from Goodwill. The plate is from Walmart. I actually got it for another inspiration but it is too big. I need a perfect plate for that but I have not been able to find it. I used the E6000 on all of these as well. I actually talked about the eyeball one in the Eyes on You post. The good thing about the big holder, I didn’t glue any thing on it so I can use it for any holiday. (Those are my golf ball spiders!)

Halloween Birdhouses and Fences

Some of this I have shown in other pictures but I never really talked about them. So here I am to share these projects with you.
Inspiration:

From Crafty Sisters. They are so colorful and fun. I loved these so much, but didn’t think I was going to do them. I didn’t even pay attention to what the actual shape of the birdhouses were.
My Creation:

I picked up the first birdhouse at Walmart, I saw it in the craft aisle and decided I was going to try it. I had so much fun making it, I picked up more houses. I am doing them for Christmas as well.

I picked up some fences at Dollar Tree. My son had liked my big fence project and decided I could make the little fences spooky.
Before:
They all looked similar to this in the beginning. The one I started with had a bird, a house and a flower. I removed the flower but left the house and bird. The bird didn’t look spooky enough after painting it so I ended up cutting off the beak and making it look more like a ghost. On the other two fences I removed all the flowers and stuff before painting them all black.
I will definitely make more of these next year, I liked them so much. And I LOVE the eyes.
Speaking of those eyes, I have posted 2 other times projects that I did with the eyes. But what I really wanted to do I hadn’t done yet. I finally did.
Magnets. So fun. I need advise though, I don’t really like the quality of the glass beads from Hobby Lobby, any suggestions? I also didn’t like how the stick on magnets from Walmart had the black part all over the part you can see. I guess the kind I have to glue on will be better.

Eyes on You.. part 2

I told everyone last week about the eyeballs I printed from Flamingo Toes. I loved them. I shared part of my project with them before but finished the garland, finally. It was no easy feat punching holes with the little tiny hole puncher and stringing small ribbon through. I couldn’t find a normal size hole puncher anywhere in the house.

Oops, you weren’t supposed to see the tape =). These were the eyes I had a hard time deciding how to finish. But basically I spray painted Gatorade lids black. I punched the eyes out with a 1 inch puncher and Mod Podged them on the lids. Then I went over the eyes with clear nail polish to “seal” them and then covered them with Dimensional Magic. They look very glossy.
I also did a fence with the eyes. I have a before picture and what I did to share with this in another post.

And a candleholder

After I adhered the $1 candle stick holder to the $1 candle holder with Beacon E600, I Mod Podged the eyeballs to the inside. Then I went over the whole inside with Mod Podge Sparkle and then Silver Extreme Glitter once the Sparkle dried. I only have a LED candle in there so nothing catches on fire.
There are some other things I want to do with the eyeballs but with the craft fair approaching quickly, I had to start on my Christmas and other items for the fair.

Wreaths, wreaths everywhere

I have made several wreaths in my time. (4 of which are in storage.) I have also seen a lot of wreaths out there in blogland the last few weeks by out of many different ingredients.

Wow is all I can say. That is a lot of plastic bottles I wouldn’t want to cut up, but Michele over at Michele Made Me sure did. And pulled it off with a bang.

I really like this one from Lindsey at Kindred Spirit Mommy. I have not seen those colors in the tulle rolls at JoAnns, Michael’s or Hobby Lobby. Guess I will have to check out ordering when I am ready to try this wreath again.

This is the first one I saw but I put it back in my memory file for later. Another simple looking one made by Courtney at Between U and Me.

After all this Inspiration (some of it before and some of it after I started mine) here is My Creation

I started with the nice $1 floral frame. Worked really well because it is stiff, not flaky and really sturdy. Not to mention that you can’t beat 1 buck. Even though it was recommended to use the tulle rolls, JoAnns barely had any colors. It just so happened that day tulle was 60% off. I got 4 yards of black and 4 yards of hot pink for a Valentine’s Day one for later. Cutting it wasn’t very easy though so I ended up with weird sizes. If you look closely you can tell it is all shorter on one side. The sign helped with that though. As I tied the tulle around the wreath I also wrapped the purple ribbon around and around. The plaque is from Walmart, another good buy for the perfect size. I painted it white and then covered that with Purple Extreme Glitter (my new love). I cut out the wicked with the Cricut in yellow cardstock paper and then went over it with black. Topped it all off with rhinestones. Then sprayed it with Acrylic sealer by Mod Podge. The little witch doll is from Hobby Lobby. I would check out Flamingo Toes for a good tutorial (but I didn’t use the boa).
