Wednesday Walks

I had 193 posts in Google Reader when I got on just now (youzer)! But you all know how you go to look at one project then click on another link and so on. I might not post all recent projects but I am sure the creator will love getting some more viewing love Winking smile, you can click on the picture to take you to their post.

Brown Paper Packages made these really cute Valentine’s blocks last year

Remodelaholic featured this toy chest from All Fresh and Clean! I couldn’t believe I was just thinking the other day of doing something to my son’s toy chest very similar to this. And her post after this one is a Herbs and Spice rack just like the one I recently picked up at Goodwill to fix up. It’s like we have the same mind Smile

Kristi of The Speckled Dog LOVES glaze (I still haven’t tried it out yet but really want to). When you see what she does with it you would too Secret telling smile

I came across a new website (to me) called One Pretty Thing. They post a Daily DYI. I love the organization of their posts and need to learn how to do that. Anyway, today I found something we can all use. A reusable shopping bag, from She Wears Flowers. So much nicer than the ones you get at the store (and all mine are from Target so every other store gives me funny looks).

My Inspiration

When I started blogging back this summer, I started on Wordpress. My mission was to blog about customer service related issues, helpful hints, ect. It didn’t last long. I love the word Serendipity so one day I blogged about it. While doing my research I came across The Serendipity Factory. It was love at first sight. Okay, I was at least very inspired. If you ever need a good pick me up, I highly recommend you subscribe to The Serendipity Factory. Somehow, from there I started following another blog, then another and I was hooked on the crafty blogs. It seemed they were all on Blogger so I decided to move over. I started up Lili’s Buzz on August 27. When I decided to go self-hosted (or whatever it is) it told me Lili’s Buzz wasn’t available (strange) so that is how Purple Paisley Pinwheels was born (I like it so much that I have decided when I can ever open my own shop I will call it that). Though things still haven’t turned for good for me, I have gotten closer to being in my better place (I was pretty depressed when I had to move in with my parents this summer and matters with my mother didn’t help). The blogging has really helped me in this endeavor. That and finding all these great projects to bring out my crafty itches. So much so that I decided to attend my first ever craft show with only 2 months to prepare. I kept myself so busy for that, but not selling almost anything at all really set me back a little. It was very saddening. I really needed to sell enough to earn back the supplies. But that is not what this is about. On to the rest of my tribute to 2010. Today I am thanking and honoring 10 posts that inspired me to create because I just had to go out and get the supplies to make one myself.

This is also the idea I used for all the wreathes I tried to sell at the craft fair. Except that I went Christmas with varied other holidays and everyday (or baby room).

#4 Candy Dish (or chips and dip)

The Speckled Dog                                                My Creation

(For some reason it won’t let me make these two pictures any bigger!) I had had mine out in the car as a back up for the candy I had out at the craft fair and it actually came apart. I am not sure if it was the painted wood holder or what but I am leery of that now. The Christmas one I had out at the fair came apart too but it was the painted charger that kept coming undone.

#5 Spooky Birdhouses

I went on to make winter and Christmas ones as well, I loved making these so much. All my smaller Christmas ones sold at the fair, but not the pedestaled bigger ones or a few of the winter ones.

#6 Halloween Wreath

This one was tough work, I couldn’t get the feathers to stay and to not leave black on my fingers. I am still contemplating taking it apart.

#8 Wooden Snowman

Crafty Chic Mommy                                             My Creation

I just realized which post it was that I was working on that got lost, since I don’t have a post on my snowmen…I used 1x3 for mine. I had had my mom cut up one back in October to make pumpkins and Christmas trees. The pieces didn’t work for trees though, so I decided to do a snowman (or 2) instead. Not near as cute at Crafty Chic Mommy though, I love hers.

Once again it seems I don’t have 10, but to make my theme stick I am sharing 2 other could have been.

#9 Terra cotta Christmas trees

House of Hepworths

I have wanted to do this project ever since I saw Allison’s post. I finally got some pots purchased half off at Hobby Lobby on December 23rd. So I will have some made soon (for next year, ha ha).

#10 Mod Podge Rocks

I am listing Amy as a whole here because she has posted many projects and shared from blogland many others that I have wanted to try. I went out and bought Dimensional Magic (well actually I looked for it for over a month before I found it) because I loved the cuff links she shared one time. Thank you Amy for all that you share.

Chip and Dip Stand

I have seen some great ideas out there on different “stands” for cake, candy, whatever.
This Inspiration is one of my favorites

It was done by Kristi over at the Speckled Dog.
My Creation

I actually had already picked up these bowls and plates from Target before I saw Kristi’s post. After seeing her post though I knew what I wanted to find for the “stand”. I found these wooden candle sticks at Goodwill. I took the base off, the metal out of the top and sprayed it with primer, then painted it that pretty Razzle Berry color. Then sprayed Mod Podge Acrylic Sealer on it. Glued the pieces together with Beacon E600. I love that I had the perfect color of paint to match the set =)

Wreaths, wreaths everywhere

I have made several wreaths in my time. (4 of which are in storage.) I have also seen a lot of wreaths out there in blogland the last few weeks by out of many different ingredients.
Fabric
motorcycle skull wreath 1
Madigan over at Madigan Made shared this on Tatertots and Jello.
Plastic

Wow is all I can say. That is a lot of plastic bottles I wouldn’t want to cut up, but Michele over at Michele Made Me sure did. And pulled it off with a bang.
Toothpicks

Ouch. I love this one but I sure wouldn’t want to have to move it to store or hang up. =) This was from Kristol over at The Magic of Ordinary Things.
Ribbon

Jen over at Tatertots and Jello put some time into this one.
Newspaper
Wreath17
Nice recycling from Malia at Yesterday on Tuesday.
Tulle is the ingredient I have wanted to use ever since I saw this one

I am really glad that Flamingo Toes shared to use the floral wreath form from Dollar Tree. They are nice and solid for only a $1.

Taylor-Ann at My Modish Mood used a embroidery hoop.

Tuesdee from Everyday is a Crafting Day made this look so simple.

I really like this one from Lindsey at Kindred Spirit Mommy. I have not seen those colors in the tulle rolls at JoAnns, Michael’s or Hobby Lobby. Guess I will have to check out ordering when I am ready to try this wreath again.

This is the first one I saw but I put it back in my memory file for later. Another simple looking one made by Courtney at Between U and Me.

After all this Inspiration (some of it before and some of it after I started mine) here is My Creation
011
I started with the nice $1 floral frame. Worked really well because it is stiff, not flaky and really sturdy. Not to mention that you can’t beat 1 buck. Even though it was recommended to use the tulle rolls, JoAnns barely had any colors. It just so happened that day tulle was 60% off. I got 4 yards of black and 4 yards of hot pink for a Valentine’s Day one for later. Cutting it wasn’t very easy though so I ended up with weird sizes. If you look closely you can tell it is all shorter on one side. The sign helped with that though. As I tied the tulle around the wreath I also wrapped the purple ribbon around and around. The plaque is from Walmart, another good buy for the perfect size. I painted it white and then covered that with Purple Extreme Glitter (my new love). 012I cut out the wicked with the Cricut in yellow cardstock paper and then went over it with black. Topped it all off with rhinestones. Then sprayed it with Acrylic sealer by Mod Podge. The little witch doll is from Hobby Lobby. I would check out Flamingo Toes for a good tutorial (but I didn’t use the boa).
